The hugely popular Diary Club returns to Tuulensuu Palace!
Diary Club is a phenomenon that shows no signs of slowing down. The club’s founders, stand-up comedians Risto K. Järvinen and Eeva Vekki, along with hundreds of other former teenagers, have been reading outrageously funny, embarrassing, moving, and honest teenage diary entries to sold-out venues across Finland for over ten years.
At Tuulensuu, audiences will hear authentic entries about what life as a teen used to be like. Expect laughter, shared experiences, secondhand embarrassment, and pure joy. In addition to Järvinen and Vekki, the stage will also feature Aurora Linna, who performs hilarious songs based on her teenage diaries, accompanied by electric piano.
In addition to diary entries, Diary Club nights have featured love letters, school essays, and poems. The evening always concludes with the “Most Cringe Teen Poem” battle, where the audience crowns the winner. The more awkward, the better!
A book featuring the best entries has also been published (Eeva Vekki & Risto K. Järvinen: Diary Club. Nemo, 2019).
“I didn’t have the energy to write yesterday ‘cause I was totally wiped out. First 8 hours at school, then art class, and then 2 hours back at school talking about what it’s like to be young. Exhausting, clearly.” (Eeva Vekki, Nov 30, 1994)
“I always wear my American Levi’s and boots—except when I’m making love. I love sexy women, meat pies, pick ‘n’ mix candy, man-to-man street fights—and of course, booze.” (From Risto K. Järvinen’s school essay, 1981)
“Funnier than stand-up. And it’s all true. Just like my own youth.” (Audience feedback)
